Artist Statement

I endeavor to bring, through my artwork, the natural settings of the American West.

My style of painting is the use of the palette knife as opposed to the brush. This method allows me to sculpt the scene upon the canvas creating a texture which mimics nature and produces the mood of the place that I want to share with my viewer.

Plein Air painting (painting in open air) nourishes my spirit. I am motivated to express my own connection to a place through those moments of sunlight or tree color, in order to relive and to share the experience. My artwork takes a critical look at rivers and streams, and I am fascinated by the minutiae of the landscape. My subjects are often beautiful, calm, water filled reflective places, or simply a favorite fishing hole.

My hope is to inspire those who see my work, to enable them to feel and observe a moment in nature through the beauty of light and how it shapes the landscape around us. A moment, a snapshot in time.
